Too busy for SEO

Digg!

I get a lot of Newsletters in my inbox everyday. From marketing and advertising to SEO and other Search News/Happenings. My favorites are always the SEO one’s since it’s a mixed bad of HYPE and some nuggets of truth. Surprisingly much of it is complete garbage. That brings me to today’s RANT.

There I was reading away and I suddenly started to notice that which I had not noticed before. This bloody thing probably has more affiliate CRAP being offered than actual information. Nothing New you say? Well this is from a ‘so called’ SEO Elite type of person. I won’t mention HER name (aren’t too many Famous SEO ladies.. take a guess) but let’s say they are supposedly at the top of the game. Also in is was Ads for their upcoming Seminars/Mini SES.

I had to wonder WHY this is happening. Secondly I had to wonder if this person even works with clients any longer? How can one spend such amounts of time on THEY”RE own Forums, writing newsletters and organizing Seminars? I have to surmise that the affiliate crap is the way (along with the seminars) they are supplementing the income lost by doing all of this instead of actual work. Looking at their site I also noticed the sheer mass of article writing they do as well. Truly amazing. I can’t seem to get that many hours out of a day. Even if I picked up a ghost writer, it would be tough.

How about the Lead Article in the ‘SEO Newsletter’? It was about Navigation, Site structure and some analytics stuff. Which, for the uninformed, is not completely part of the world of SEO. Certianly closer to the conversions family. Ahhhh - but the items writer's going to be AT these seminars. Ok, so it’s a another shameless PLUG, I get it. Furthermore I see that the this person is speaking at some other events soon. WOW… how do they do it? Oh I know… they can do it because they don’t actually WORK in the SEO field much. Must be?

I wonder about the validity of learning from some one whom isn’t ‘in the trenches’ but I guess that’s just me. Thank goodness these people can SELL YOU CRAP to make their money and giving speeches for a fee, since it is unlikely they have the time to actually work in the SEO field.

As they say, those who can do, Teach.

I use to play trumpet and was at one time one of the best young up-and-coming players in the nation. I always questioned along with my peers who we were being taught by and we always concluded it was those that wanted to play professionally but could not so the fall back was to teach. I ended up getting burnt out by these so-called professionals.

Which in the SEO field which I am studying to help my sites, I find so much hogwash, I do not know what to believe and I am grateful to have Dave to guide me confidently. I cannot afford a one-day

I wanted to post this in a forum to get feedback but then thought, why the heck waste anyone's time.

I personally cannot stand those one page websites, no talent, just a marketing blob. I would rather suffer through an hour long infomercial on the tele.

And they want me to "hang out with the professionals". What an insult. :zzz

I hear ya Doc. It’s either TOO EXPENSIVE or affordable CRAP. Even with my web development company we have always strived to be accessible to the small business owner.
Another part of the problem can be SEO folks that simply don’t have the knowledge or experience. Obviously another risk.

Most of the conventions seem to be about ‘networking’ from what I hear. I would imagine some high brow networking at those prices. I have plenty of work so for the moment I haven’t had an interest. Maybe if the PAY ME, I may drop by. Lol

I used to teach martial arts and it was more about passing on the knowledge and a responsibility with the knowledge. I think I bring a certain amount of that attitude with me to my internet work.
