Google bowling goes political
Friday, 27 October 2006
Digg!

Well the ever popular family fun game Google Bowling’ was back in the news it seems. What is Google bowling? If you don’t know, then apparently you’re not ‘very smart’,  at least according to one - Chris Bowers -

“I think Internet users are very smart and most are aware of what a Google bomb is,” he said, “and they will be aware that results can be massaged a bit’

While it is an interesting, if not passé pursuit, GB dark side wanna-bees are always fun to read. Here are some goodies...

Quotable;

“It will be harder to manipulate results for searches of the name of a candidate who has already been widely covered in the news and widely discussed in the blogosphere, because so many links and so many pages already refer to that particular name. Search results on lesser-known candidates, with a smaller body of references and links, may be easier to change.”
Yuppers…shows what kind of investment you could be up against in a Google Bowling war. Be careful what fires you start with this. It also shows it’s relative ineffectiveness on more entrenched rankings/competitors.

“Ricardo Reyes, a Google spokesman. “A site’s ranking in Google’s search results is automatically determined by computer algorithms using thousands of factors to calculate a page’s relevance to a given query.””
Man…100s of factors… now 1000s… it’s a magical mystery tour at the Plex… or is it a focused campaign of misinformation? Or does anyone actually know any longer how many factors there are?? It will remain a mystery.

And in the end… it’s all just another Link Bait ---
““There’s no hidden agenda. One of the reasons for this is to show that campaigns should be doing this on their own.”” -- said Mr Bowers
