The Adaptive Mind PDF  | Print |  E-mail

It is the mark of an educated mind to be able to entertain a thought without accepting it.
Aristotle - Greek critic, philosopher, physicist, & zoologist (384 BC - 322 BC)

I was looking at that little adventurous prose tonight and simply had to relate it to the ongoing experience unto paths unknown in my world of search. While I tend to run in circles around my office like a child that has just Think about it...had their favourite candy usurped when I am excited about a given post in the Blog-o-sphere, I do temper it where possible. I know I reside in a world of link bait that often seeks eye balls over personalities and that I can deal with. I understand that what I believe others may not. I realize that I am wrong in many things I believe today as experience has been my greatest teacher… but I always listen.

Myopic; short: lacking foresight or scope; "a short view of the problem"; "shortsighted policies"; "shortsighted critics derided the plan"; "myopic thinking"

One of the secrets to longevity in the business world is the ability to adapt as a caterpillar does to flight. Rarely have I met a business person that began the journey into the unknown from the same perch that they sit upon today. It is most certainly wise to have goals and an over-all plan of action… it is fine to dream as well…. But being open to the ever changing landscape of your personal realities will ultimately lead you to the final hour.

I say to you, those that are uber focussed… in the zone… wear not the blinders of self assurance. Nothing is more valued in the world of business than the ability to adapt. It is you see, the essence of evolution and our fate should we care to address it or not.

I have come to understand the lot in life that is my status as a warhorse after nearly 20 years of self employment and adaptations that took me from a career as a brick and mortar consultant to a yappy, grumpy old online anomaly that is but a twig upon the shoulders of the mighty river called life at this point… where we begin is seldom where we land. Be sure to always keep openness to allowing yourself to grow in directions that you may not have originally intended, allow the river to do some of the work for you.

This little ditty was inspired by a young in-house SEO that I was chatting with today… so let me end it with some more words that are wiser than I could ever pen;

It is a mistake to try to look too far ahead. The chain of destiny can only be grasped one link at a time.
Sir Winston Churchill
- British politician (1874 - 1965)
