Thursday Beer Break, the State of Social Media Marketing

Digg!

Slow death for social media? – As any good reader around here would know I have been luke-warm up until now as far as the over-all viability of social media as a marketing tool. Not that I believe it isn’t an effective route, but because I believe it is situational. It is not for every business or every market necessarily. In simplest terms, all that Glitters is not Gold. There is some grumblings recently that point to some other cracks in the marketing darling that is social media (and networking). .

eConsultancy asks; is the novelty wearing off? And muses about some leaky Facebook financials, while Phil had a nice post with; Are Social Networks Dying?

Meanwhile... the folks over at WebProNews were also reporting Social Media Marketing performance to be weak on a few levels. How about some proof that FaceBook Ads don’t work? Hell, even Google is having troubles monetizing social spaces.  This all had me wondering if Jenn wasn’t getting somewhere with the Next Evolution of Social Media?

FaceBook Finance Debacle – speaking of the cool kids at FaceBook, a chatty Zuckergerg spilled the beans on the FaceBook finances which most certainly revealed a leaky business model if you look close enough.

Have you experienced Social Media Marketing success? Do tell, and shoo the gloom away :0)

..and that's about it. I am waaaayyy too sober to be more chatty on this beer break.. maybe more later...

Social Media is here to stay I think. In my own little experiences I am already being given offers. Offers that by the way are more in the realm of SEO material. The links in this article are fantastic and as always David you just say what's on your mind. I admire that a great deal.
Facebook's finances aren't great at all as you point out the article from all things good. The ROI for Facebook really is below anything else that I have tried. Facebook is not the giant people think they are. This is from an advertiser's point of view.
I have to say that I am having a blast with social media marketing. There's a lot of fluff in it and lots of fake people on SEO sites that don't even exist, but for the most part the social media arena is a fun one.
The only thing that can kill it is crap like Twitter, that I am now using for one of my own networks. The more we come out with these neat little applications, the more of our time is lost. Twitter this and that and before you know it you really do have no life at all.
Like anything social media will evolve and as they say, only the strong survive. I just know that you David will be standing tall and all the more wiser and wealthier in a years time.
