I wasn't actually going to post this one because of Cranky Dave (not me) and Spline were giong at it pretty good - but it's a great debate, so we'll keep it. While the post started off innocently enough, a debate over backlinks and passing PR ensued. Pretty good stuff really.

"Let me try and make my point even simpler...
Page A has 10 links and only 10 links on it. They point to page B.
Or...
Page A has only one link on it. It points to page B - How in the world you think the first example passes more PR to page B is beyond me.
Page A has a finite amount of PR to pass to page B and that total amount of PR does not become more when you add more links on the page. So in the my examples the total amount of PR that is passed is the same. When it comes to links, there's no reason to automatically assume that that 2 links on a page, to the same page, pass more total value, just as with PR, than a single link on that same page. Additionally, since this is done when it comes to a single page, it's just as plausible to think that it could be done for a domain as well. There's not a single PR explanation out there that accounts for multiple links to a single page from a single domain. "
