Hi Charles, I appreciate the great content that you provided in this post. I haven't been using Yelp to be honest, but I'm going to trial it out, and will also particularly make use of the "local" aspect of naming images for clients. Thanks, LocalWebMarkete r

Often we forget the little guy, the SMB, in our discussions of the comings and goings of the Internet marketing industry. Sure there are times like this when a report surfaces talking about their issues and concerns but, for the most part, we like to talk about big brands and how they do the Internet marketing thing well or not so well. www.onlineuniversalwork.com

Aloha, while I am happy to read that the post on local web marketing appears to be well received, I would also like to raise the flag of caution. I am certain that we will see a wave of new apps for Local, but you have to realize that despite the claims, its nearly impossible to test the effectiveness of many Local/Map services. Much of that has to do with each providers update frequency, as well as all of the noise, making it very difficult to determine what map data provider provided what. Even with seeded data its very difficult to measure, if at all. I had a customer call me today wanting directions for his a TomTom GPS receiver, fortunately we showed up, but we really don’t know if the data came from TeleAtlas or mobile data collectors or some another 3rd party. People are getting more and more tech savvy, so I would also advise that you determine what your latitude and longitude coordinates are. Our store is 33.122753, -117.080126 You can find some good resources for that online e.g. http://itouchmap.com/latlong.html, but check a few for accuracy.

Hey Charles, What a fantastic post full of useful info, most of which I hadn't thought of. This is definitely a must read for anyone thinking about or doing local SEO. o_O The idea of geotagging images really breaks open the world of marketing for local SEO.... I mean, when you consider the power of images in a catalog or even on your own website, the improvement in the CTR is remarkable. Now, to connect those to maps and other features... wow. The thought of Google helping itself to my content when it penalizes others for having two different URLs to the same page is ridiculous. Whoever it was with that lovely little tidbit needs to be locked in a room full of website owners and copywriters for awhile... give me one hour... :snicker: And yeah... the smileys are

Its interesting that on the heals of this post that Google rolled out a few features for Local, one being a new off-line/online marketing feature that lets you link to your coupons (http://maps.google.com/coupons/page?oi=lbc&did=0_17905006811773005244&hl=en-US&gl=US) Another one is a feature that will let you 'Edit" a listing in Gmaps, unless someone owns it whereas you get a message that says "This listing has been claimed in Local Business Center and can only be edited by the owner". Read Gmaps TOS on editing listings cause it appears to be a fast way to get banned from Gmaps (honeypot?) And the strangest new addition is that the Local listings are now pulling text right off of the listings website! http://maps.google.com/maps?hl=en&q=hawaiian+shirts&near=escondido&ie=UTF8&sll=33.122753,-117.080126&sspn=0.006295,0.006295&ei=Al2oSs_qPJ32NNeIyK0J&cd=1&usq=hawaiian+shirts&geocode=FcFp-QEdwn8F-Q&cid=17905006811773005244&li=lmd&z=14&t=m Lastly, I am seeing listings in Gmaps (http://maps.google.com/maps) that have an ID under the listing that says "Unverified listing". Well I have not added that listing yet, but now that Google scraped it off my site I guess I dont need to.
