There is a huge difference between a search engine friendly web site and SEO. A search engine friendly site is only the first step to an SEO campaign and it would be a huge conflict of interests by yahoo to get into SEO.

This is definitely something interesting, but I think what it does is give those users who have no idea how to benefit their site for search at least some basics to go off of. With no linking or anything else to back it up, they will simply have the bare minimum pieces to their site's SEO. I do find it a bit ironic that they are looking to influence organic results with their own tools, but again with it being just the basics I don't think it is enough to make a HUGE impact overall. I'm sure a site with the basics in place and a strong link profile will still blow a Yahoo assisted site out of the water. I'm curious to see if something like this comes full circle, and where they might implement it. I would have to share your assumption that it would be used solely for Yahoo based sites.
