Agreed with the 'cutting your teeth' comment. Case & point for me: htaccess rules. I read rewrite rules all over the web but not until I began struggling with various rewrites did I actually learn what its all about. Of course reading certainly helps provide a base of where to begin

Social Networking 1.0 (i.e. forums) was a wonderful place where you could not only meet up with other professional SEOs, but webmasters and curious onlookers alike. ---------- micheel internet marketing (http:www.drivenwide.com)

Well, there is ALWAYS lessons hidden within problem solving for the non-SEO folks on the boards. Learning how to diagnose problems and advising on them is very educational for a young SEO. Reading a blog or a book doesn't give a REAL WORLD experience. It is merely words... Would I advise using a forum to learn SEO from merely reading? Not many of them, but that's not the value to a young SEO... ..simply a good place to cut yer teeth....

I have to disagree. Forums were a cool thing a couple of years ago but nowadays there is not much to learn for an seo in any forum I know. Must information can be found in the blogsphere much faster.

in the movie starwars a "young jedi" would be refered to as a "young padawan" In the 2nd Starwars movie Yoda refers to Luke as a "padawan" multiple times during his training - a padawan is not yet a jedi but still in training and learning of all his abilities. /end starwars geek talk
